14 Days Uganda Birding Safari

Throughout the itinerary, you’ll have opportunities to explore various habitats, including wetlands, forests, savannahs, and rivers, each offering a unique array of bird species. Highlights include the chance to spot the rare shoebill stork, Albertine Rift endemics, abundant waterbirds, and other sought-after species like the African green broadbill and Rwenzori turaco.

Itenariry

Day 1: Mabamba Swamp and Lake Victoria

Early Morning depart to Mabamba Swamp, located on the shores of Lake Victoria. Go on a boat trip through the swamp, searching for the elusive shoebill stork and other wetland species. Return to Entebbe in the afternoon and explore the birdlife around Lake Victoria.

Day 2: Entebbe to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Depart from Entebbe and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Enjoy birdwatching along the way, stopping to spot species in various habitats. In the evening, arrive at your accommodation within the park and rest for the evening.

Day 3: Queen Elizabeth National Park

Embark on an early morning game drive to explore the diverse birdlife in the park’s savannah and woodland areas. After game, come back to the lodge for lunch and relax, in the afternoon take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, known for its high bird concentration. Keep an eye out for African skimmers, African fish eagles, and other waterbirds.

Day 4: Queen Elizabeth National Park to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Depart from Queen Elizabeth National Park and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest through Ishasha sector for a chance to spot the rare and elusive tree-climbing lions. Arrive in Bwindi in the afternoon and take a leisurely walk around the lodge, enjoying the birdlife in the area.

Day 5: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Begin your gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. While searching for the mountain gorillas, keep an eye out for Albertine Rift endemics such as the African green broadbill, Rwenzori turaco, and handsome francolin. Spend the rest of the day exploring the forest and enjoying birdwatching opportunities.

Day 6: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to Kibale Forest National Park

Wake up early morning, take breakfast and check out from your lodge and leave Bwindi to Kibale Forest National Park. Arrive at your accommodation in the afternoon and take a walk around the lodge, listening for the calls of various bird species.

Day 7: Kibale Forest National Park

Embark on a chimpanzee trekking experience in Kibale Forest, home to a large population of habituated chimpanzees. In the afternoon, explore Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for additional birding opportunities.

Day 8: Kibale Forest National Park

Day 9: Kibale Forest National Park to Murchison Falls National Park

Early morning after breakfast, we will depart from Kibale Forest and drive to Murchison Falls National Park. Arrive at your accommodation within the park and enjoy birdwatching around the lodge.

Day 10: Murchison Falls National Park

Embark on a game drive in the northern section of Murchison Falls National Park, searching for savannah birds such as the Abyssinian ground hornbill, secretary bird, and saddle-billed stork. Take a boat safari along the Nile River, enjoying the scenic views and spotting waterbirds like the Goliath heron, African skimmer, and African fish eagle.

Day 11: Murchison Falls National Park

Visit the Delta area of Murchison Falls National Park, known for its rich birdlife. Explore the diverse habitats, including wetlands and riverine forests. Look out for the rare shoebill stork, Pel’s fishing owl, and various kingfisher species.

Day 12: Murchison Falls National Park to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and Jinja

Depart from Murchison Falls National Park and drive to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Enjoy a guided rhino tracking experience and spot various bird species within the sanctuary. After continue to Jinja, the source of the Nile River, and check into your accommodation.

Day 13: Jinja
