In the afternoon, we will embark on a relaxing boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, a natural waterway that connects Lake Edward and Lake George. This boat cruise offers a different perspective of the park, allowing us to observe wildlife from a closer distance as they come to the water’s edge to drink, bathe, and play. Keep an eye out for hippos, crocodiles, water buffalos, and an abundance of bird species that call the channel home.

Day 3: Chimp Trekking in Kyambura Gorge and Transfer to Bwindi

After breakfast, we will embark on a journey to Kyambura Gorge, also known as the “Valley of Apes.” This hidden gem is home to a thriving population of chimpanzees, our closest relatives in the animal kingdom. With the guidance of experienced trackers, we will venture into the dense forest in search of these intelligent and playful creatures. As we trek through the gorge, the sounds of the forest will surround us, creating a symphony of nature. The thrill of spotting a group of chimps swinging through the trees or engaging in their daily activities is an experience that words cannot fully capture. After an exhilarating chimp trekking experience, we will continue our journey to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to approximately half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population. The drive to Bwindi will take us through picturesque landscapes, rural villages, and breathtaking mountain views, offering glimpses of the beauty that awaits us.

Upon arrival at Bwindi, we will check into our accommodation and have some time to relax and prepare for the highlight of our safari – gorilla trekking.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Experience

After an early breakfast, we will gather at the park headquarters, where we will receive a briefing on the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. Led by experienced guides and trackers, we will venture into the dense forest in search of a gorilla family to observe and admire in their natural habitat. The trek itself can vary in duration and difficulty, depending on the location of the gorilla family we are assigned to visit. It may take anywhere from 1 to 6 hours of hiking through rugged terrain, dense vegetation, and steep slopes. But every step is worth it when we finally come face to face with these gentle giants.

After an unforgettable encounter with the gorillas, we will return to our accommodation, where we will have the chance to relax and reflect on the day’s adventures. In the evening, we will immerse ourselves in the rich cultural heritage of the Batwa people, one of the oldest indigenous communities in Uganda. Through traditional music, dance, and storytelling, we will learn about their way of life, their deep connection to the forest, and their efforts to preserve their cultural heritage.
