Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda

Arrival at Kigali Airport. Our driver will pick you up and transfer to your accommodation in Kigali. After you will embark on city tour and spend the day exploring Kigali’s attractions, such as the Genocide Memorial, local markets, and vibrant neighborhoods. Overnight in Kigali.

Day 2: Akagera National Park

Depart from Kigali and drive to Akagera National Park (approximately 3-4 hours). Arrive at the park and check into your accommodation. After you will embark on an afternoon game drive in the park, spotting wildlife like elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and more. Overnight in Akagera National Park.

Day 3: Akagera National Park

Embark on a morning game drive, taking the opportunity to spot predators like lions, hyenas, and leopards. After the game drive, you can opt for a boat safari on Lake Ihema, where you’ll encounter hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species. Overnight in Akagera National Park.

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Leave Akagera National Park and drive to Volcanoes National Park (approximately 4-5 hours). Arrive in Volcanoes National Park and check into your accommodation. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure, relaxing and preparing for the upcoming gorilla trekking experience. Overnight near Volcanoes National Park.

Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Wake up early and head to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking. Embark on a thrilling gorilla trekking adventure, where you’ll hike through the rainforest to observe a gorilla family in their natural habitat. Spend a memorable hour with the gorillas, observing their behavior and taking photographs. After the trek, return to your accommodation and relax. Overnight near Volcanoes National Park.

Day 6: Optional Activities in Volcanoes National Park

Today, you have the option to participate in additional activities in Volcanoes National Park, such as a golden monkey trek, a visit to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund’s Karisoke Research Center, or a scenic hike to one of the volcanic peaks. Alternatively, you can enjoy a day of relaxation or explore the nearby communities. Overnight near Volcanoes National Park.

Day 7: Transfer to Burundi

Leave Rwanda and cross the border into Burundi (approximately 3-4 hours from Volcanoes National Park). Arrive in Bujumbura, the capital city of Burundi, and check into your accommodation. Spend the evening exploring the city, visiting local markets, and enjoying the waterfront along Lake Tanganyika. Overnight in Bujumbura.

Day 8: Exploring Bujumbura and Lake Tanganyika

Spend the day exploring Bujumbura’s attractions, including the Livingstone-Stanley Monument, Rusizi National Park, and the Musee Vivant (Living Museum). In the afternoon, take a boat trip on Lake Tanganyika, enjoying swimming, fishing, or simply relaxing on the lake’s shores. Overnight in Bujumbura.

Day 9: Departure

Depending on your departure time, you may have some additional time in the morning to explore Bujumbura further or do some last-minute shopping. After we will transfer to Bujumbura International Airport for your onward journey.
